At times, you may want to record sound from your computer’s speakers. The best way to do this is to use the audio output from your speakers as your input device in the recording software of your choice. You do not need a mic or any special equipment to do this. Just follow these instructions:
Step 1: Enable “Stereo Mix” through Control Panel
Open your control panel and navigate to your Sound settings.
Navigate to theĀ Recording tab.
If you do not see Stereo Mix, it is most likely hidden for being disabled. Right click and Show Disabled Devices.
With Stereo Mix visible, Enable it by Right Clicking and checking Enable.
Step 2: Use “Stereo Mix” as your input device within the recording software of your choice.
You may now use “Stereo Mix” to record sound anywhere you would normally use a mic. In this example, we will use Audacity. Open Audacity and navigate to your Input Device Selection. From here choose “Stereo Mix”.
You may now click Record and play whatever you want recorded through your speakers. Audacity will pick up this audio very clearly. Stop whenever you have captured your desired audio. From here you can Export your recording to your computer.
That’s it. You can now easily record audio from your speakers onto your computer.
